Say you're Maya. You make fine jewelry in a spare room: hammered cuffs, signet rings, pearl drops. For two years you've sold at trunk shows and through Instagram messages. Then a buyer in another city wants the pearl drops at midnight, and the only way to pay is a bank transfer and a screenshot. Saturday's trunk show is packing up, and for the third week running someone asks for your website. You write your Instagram handle on the back of a receipt and promise yourself that this month you'll build an online store with AI.

You know the usual options, and none of them fits. A marketplace takes a fee on every sale and puts your cuff next to a hundred cheaper ones. A classic store builder hands you 300 templates, a theme editor, an app store for the basics and a monthly bill before you've sold anything.

So one evening you give AI a try. You type "build me an online jewelry store" into an AI app builder, and two minutes later there's a handsome homepage on screen. Then it asks you to connect a database, paste an API key and press Deploy. You start to wonder where the orders will go, who keeps your customers' addresses, and who fixes it when it breaks on a Friday night. You close the tab.

Here's the short answer to the question underneath: yes, you can build an online store with AI and no code, in one evening. What matters is which part the AI builds. A page takes minutes now. A store also needs checkout, payments, a home for orders and addresses, a domain and security, every day it's open. When all of that comes built in, the AI gets to do the part you'd enjoy.

A no-code [AI store builder](https://shopdrop.pro/features/ai-store-builder) works that way. The hosting, checkout, database and security already run, and the AI does the setup and design in plain words: you describe what you want, it drafts the change, and you approve it.

This guide builds Maya's store, Wren & Gold, that way:

**In short**

- **Day one:** the first run turns a name and one photo into a working store.
- **The editor:** a banner, new words, a story section and Genie, step by step.
- **Your own AI:** running the store from Claude, ChatGPT or Grok, with an AI team for each job.
- **The other route:** what AI app builders leave to you, with the numbers and the security record.

Still weighing a store against a marketplace, or new to selling online? Start with our guide on [how to start an online store](https://shopdrop.pro/guides/how-to-start-an-online-store), then come back here for the AI part.

## Day one: the AI store builder sets up the store

[Video: Naming the store Wren & Gold and choosing Jewelry in the first run](https://cdn.shopdrop.pro/content/799083eb-543e-47d0-8f47-218aa23f385c.webm)

Maya signs up and the first question is her store's name. She types "Wren & Gold" and her address appears under it as she types. Next, she taps what she sells: Jewelry.

[Video: Adding the first product, a hammered gold cuff, with a photo, name and price](https://cdn.shopdrop.pro/content/7201ace9-3eaf-4976-89b1-d02ed735cc53.webm)

Then her first product. She chooses a photo of the hammered cuff, gives it a name and a price, and taps Continue.

[Video: Building your store: contact details, delivery, policies, pages and logo fill in beside a live preview](https://cdn.shopdrop.pro/content/65729924-ac95-4d84-a7bb-f22153f6c66b.webm)

Now Shopdrop builds the store while she watches. The steps tick past: adding contact details, setting up delivery, writing her policies, writing her pages, adding footer links, drawing a logo, making a browser icon and making a banner. A phone preview beside the list fills in as each one lands.

![The first run ends on "Wren & Gold is ready to go live!" with the store preview beside it](https://cdn.shopdrop.pro/content/233eeab6-c593-40b6-9726-93e3505a011e.w1600.webp)

A few minutes after signing up, she reads "Wren & Gold is ready to go live!" She has a logo, policies, pages, delivery settings, cash on delivery switched on, her first product, and a banner made from her own photo. The banner is free on every plan. She could publish right now. She taps "Edit colors, fonts and banner" instead, because she wants it to feel like hers.

## From a starter store to a polished one, in the editor

[Video: fr4-reveal.webm, the reveal, then "Edit colors, fonts and banner" opening the editor](https://cdn.shopdrop.pro/content/e923a5e9-0a80-47c3-b9e6-a50c915b9687.webm)

The [store editor](https://shopdrop.pro/features/website-builder) opens on her real store: sections on the left, the page in the middle, settings on the right. Every change saves as a draft until she publishes.

### 1. Add the rest of her pieces

In Products she adds the dress watch, the tennis bracelet, the herringbone chain, the pearl drops and the signet ring. Each one gets a photo, a name and a price. Draft with Genie can write the title, description and tags from the photo; she reads them, fixes a word or two, and sets every price herself.

### 2. Make a banner in Superstudio

[Video: pick the watch photo, describe the light, Make banner](https://cdn.shopdrop.pro/content/0ccc568a-f876-491a-a033-cb50bb2c81bf.webm)

![A wide banner of the dress watch on dark stone with space for words on the left](https://cdn.shopdrop.pro/content/08901b83-59eb-454a-95f8-4db7fe36db0a.w1600.webp)

For the top of the homepage she wants something wider and moodier than a product shot. In [Superstudio](https://shopdrop.pro/superstudio) she picks the dress watch photo and writes one line: "Late afternoon light on dark stone, room for words on the left." She presses Make banner and gets a wide image built around her own watch.

### 3. Put it on the page

[Video: edA.webm, hover outlines, select the hero, Choose image, pick the banner, the page updates](https://cdn.shopdrop.pro/content/6376824f-e2df-494b-a1d0-816d02498c90.webm)

The banner she just made is already in her Files. Back in the editor she moves over the page, and each section lights up under the pointer. She clicks the hero, chooses the banner, and the page changes behind it.

### 4. Click the words to change them

[Video: edB.webm, double-click the heading on the page, type the new line](https://cdn.shopdrop.pro/content/c56b0ae0-2b98-4ea6-bd75-679af92430cb.webm)

She double-clicks the store name on the banner and types "Gold that's made to be worn". The panel on the right follows her to that field, so she never hunts for a setting.

### 5. Tell her story

[Video: edC.webm, Add section, Image with text, it lands under the banner](https://cdn.shopdrop.pro/content/88b48ed0-71ec-4dad-a8e5-ed42b1272b23.webm)

Add section opens a searchable list. She picks Image with text, and it lands under the banner with her pearl drops already in it and a heading that reads "About Wren & Gold". Colors and fonts live under Styles, where one change restyles every page, and every [theme](https://shopdrop.pro/themes) takes the same edits.

### 6. Ask Genie for the fiddly bits

[Video: "Can you give me rounder buttons?", the card, Apply, the buttons change](https://cdn.shopdrop.pro/content/d3ccfc94-3379-4b95-a5b2-22b0ad6520fa.webm)

Some changes are easier to say than to find. She opens [Genie](https://shopdrop.pro/genie) with ⌘J and asks: "Can you give me rounder buttons?" Genie answers with a card that shows the page before and after and the one setting it changes, from 0 px corners to 16 px. She taps Apply and the buttons on the page round off.

### 7. Check it on a phone, then publish

[Video: edF.webm, phone preview, scroll, back to desktop, Publish](https://cdn.shopdrop.pro/content/2140cb33-8318-418c-ad20-5ee8717f5823.webm)

She switches the preview to Phone and scrolls the whole page: the banner, her story, her six pieces. Then she taps Publish.

## Bring your own AI: any model, any look

Genie lives inside Shopdrop and works on every plan. Maya also uses an AI assistant for everything else in her business, and she can run her store from there too.

![Claude, ChatGPT and Grok connect through the Shopdrop connector to the Wren & Gold store: products, orders, design and numbers](https://cdn.shopdrop.pro/content/d05685d6-583c-45e6-926d-5b3f53aec05e.w1600.webp)

Shopdrop's connector links her store to Claude, ChatGPT or Grok. She connects once from [shopdrop.pro/mcp](https://shopdrop.pro/mcp), picks what the assistant may reach, and then works on the same store from the chat she already has open. She keeps whichever model she prefers in that app, Opus 5.5 in Claude, say.

[Video: Claude reads the homepage and returns one card with four design changes; Apply 4 changes puts them on the draft](https://cdn.shopdrop.pro/content/7045daaa-ce73-48eb-8bc4-f8ec065d8d21.webm)

Maya tries it. She asks Claude to make her homepage feel quieter, like a gallery, with more white space and lighter type. Claude reads her store's design and comes back with one card of four changes: a serif for headings, twice the space between sections, a shorter banner and outline buttons. Only she can apply it. She taps Apply 4 changes, and the draft updates. When she likes the preview, she publishes.

The same connector reads and changes products, orders, discounts, pages and the store's numbers, within the access she gave it.

## Running the store, not only building it

A store is mostly the days after launch. These are the jobs that fill Maya's week, and what she says to get them done:

- **Orders.** "What's waiting to go out?" She marks each one as it ships, and cash on delivery shows as collected or still to collect.
- **Stock.** "What's running low?" The answer comes from her real stock, with the pieces selling fastest first.
- **A sale.** "Make a 15% code PEARLS15 for the pearl drops this weekend." Genie answers with the code, the discount and when it runs, and creates it when she taps Create.
- **Reviews.** "Show me the reviews waiting for me." She approves the good ones.
- **The weekly numbers.** One request gives her a one-page report: net sales against last week, best sellers, slow movers, stock at risk and what needs her attention.

[Video: the PEARLS15 card, then Create](https://cdn.shopdrop.pro/content/d984d060-22e3-4f3d-b469-935b6483ce48.webm)

[Video: sales, orders, and what needs attention](https://cdn.shopdrop.pro/content/2a36eb56-bc0c-4dce-ba01-e1538bd660d1.webm)

In Claude, the connector comes with six ready-made jobs in the + menu: Launch my store, Add products from photos, Redesign my homepage, Weekly review, Run a sale, and Improve how my store shows on Google. Each one already knows the steps.

![The hammered gold cuff and a diamond tennis bracelet on dark red satin](https://cdn.shopdrop.pro/content/cb74f3af-151c-4d77-b593-d39df36f62ef.w1200.webp)

## Your AI team: one agent per job

Skills work like a small team. Each one has a job and its own set of tools. Ask for one thing, "Get the pearl drops ready for this weekend", and each agent does its part: the products agent adds stock, the marketing agent drafts a code, the design agent puts up a weekend banner and the operations agent lists the orders to send first. Each one proposes, and Maya approves.

[Video: more stock, a code, a banner and a list of orders to send](https://cdn.shopdrop.pro/content/55fe0a5f-d0c9-4807-9590-39df7b185246.webm)

| Role | What it does | Example tools |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Design and storefront | Looks, sections, banners, theme | edit_design, preview_design, publish_design |
| Products | Listings from photos, variants, collections | create_products, manage_variants |
| Marketing and content | Sales, campaigns, pages and posts, SEO | create_discount, create_campaign, seo_audit |
| Operations | Orders, tracking, reviews, the numbers | search_orders, fulfil_orders, get_metrics |

In Genie, these roles are built in. Genie picks the right one from what Maya asks. In Claude, she can give each role its own skill: "You're Wren & Gold's catalog manager. Write in our voice, never invent a price, and use only the product tools." Then she calls on the one she needs, the way she'd message a colleague.

## Your own ecommerce skills, on a schedule

A skill is a saved set of instructions Claude follows the same way every time. You make one under Customize → Skills in Claude, on any plan, Free included ([Anthropic's guide](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/12512180-use-skills-in-claude)). Maya writes one called "Monday stock check": list the pieces about to sell out, the orders older than two days and the reviews waiting, then put it all on one page.

![Every Monday at 8:00 the Monday stock check skill reads the store and leaves a one-page note](https://cdn.shopdrop.pro/content/468d0e3e-41f4-446b-96a0-bb53ef07b411.w1600.webp)

To run it without her, she makes it a scheduled task in Claude's desktop app, every Monday at 8:00. Scheduled tasks run with the connectors you've added ([Anthropic's docs](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/desktop-scheduled-tasks)), so while the app is open on her laptop it reads her store and leaves her a one-page note.

A few more she could set up:

- a Friday summary of the week's sales;
- a monthly list of slow movers, with a sale drafted for her to approve;
- a nightly check for reviews nobody has answered.

## What an AI app builder leaves to you

AI app builders are remarkable, and the numbers show why so many people use them. [Lovable](https://techcrunch.com/2026/09/24/lovables-annualized-revenue-crosses-600m-as-vibe-coding-takes-off/) passed $600 million in annual run-rate revenue in September, and in June it said people were starting [one million new projects a week](https://techcrunch.com/2026/06/09/lovable-says-it-has-hit-500m-in-annualized-revenue-with-1-million-new-projects-a-week/). [Replit](https://replit.com/blog/replit-raises-400-million-dollars) has more than 50 million users, and Vercel says [more than 4 million people](https://vercel.com/blog/introducing-the-new-v0) have built with v0. Base44, which Wix bought, reached [about $150 million in ARR](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001576789/000162828026034370/firstquarter2026results.htm) by May.

Professional developers are on board too. At Google, [75% of all new code](https://blog.google/innovation-and-ai/infrastructure-and-cloud/google-cloud/cloud-next-2026-sundar-pichai/) is now AI-generated and approved by engineers, up from 50% the fall before. In Stack Overflow's [2026 survey](https://stackoverflow.co/company/press/archive/stack-overflow-annual-developer-survey-ai-trust-conditional), 66% of developers use coding assistants or agents.

The old way costs more. Most ecommerce sites built by agencies reviewed on [Clutch](https://clutch.co/developers/ecommerce/pricing) cost under $10,000, and plenty of businesses still have no site at all. That's 22% of UK firms, by the government's [2026 business survey](https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/uk-business-data-survey-2026/uk-business-data-survey-2026).

![Above the waterline, the page a prompt builds. Below it, hosting, database, deployments, domain and SSL, payments, security, speed and email](https://cdn.shopdrop.pro/content/e9649411-e61c-42a5-bdec-aa754be2cb0b.w1600.webp)

So the page is the easy part now. Here's what comes after it.

**Hosting.** The app needs a home. Vercel's free Hobby plan is for [non-commercial use only](https://vercel.com/docs/limits/fair-use-guidelines), and taking payments counts as commercial.

**The database.** Orders, addresses and phone numbers need a home. Supabase, the database many AI builders connect to, [pauses free projects](https://supabase.com/pricing) after a week without activity, so one quiet week can leave a small store without its database.

**Deployments.** Every change is a release. A bad one breaks the live site. In July 2025 a Replit agent [deleted a company's production database](https://www.theregister.com/software/2025/07/22/replit-makes-vibe-y-promise-to-prevent-vibe-coding-disasters/1145851) during a code freeze. Replit's CEO called it "unacceptable and should never be possible," and the company added automatic separation of test and live databases.

**Domains and SSL.** A domain means DNS records and certificates. The wholesale price of a .com goes to [$10.97](https://www.fool.com/earnings/call-transcripts/2026/04/23/verisign-vrsn-q1-2026-earnings-transcript/) on November 1, before any registrar adds its share.

**Payments.** Card processors charge per sale ([2.9% + 30¢](https://stripe.com/pricing) at Stripe in the US), and the card industry's security standard, PCI DSS, applies to every merchant [regardless of size](https://www.pcisecuritystandards.org/merchants/).

## The security part nobody demos

A store holds other people's names, addresses and phone numbers. AI-built apps have a record here, and it's public.

- In 2025, a researcher found exposed data in [170 of 1,645 Lovable apps](https://mattpalmer.io/posts/statement-on-CVE-2025-48757/) he scanned, because their database access rules were missing or wrong. It became [CVE-2025-48757](https://cveawg.mitre.org/api/cve/CVE-2025-48757).
- Escape scanned thousands of public apps made with AI builders and found [more than 2,000 vulnerabilities and over 400 exposed secrets](https://escape.tech/blog/methodology-how-we-discovered-vulnerabilities-apps-built-with-vibe-coding/).
- Wiz found that anyone with a Base44 app's public ID could [create an account on a private app](https://www.wiz.io/blog/critical-vulnerability-base44). Base44 fixed it within a day.
- In February, Wiz found [1.5 million API tokens](https://wiz.io/blog/exposed-moltbook-database-reveals-millions-of-api-keys) exposed by an AI-built app whose database had no access rules, and called it a recurring pattern.
- Veracode's tests of AI-written code found that [45% of samples](https://www.veracode.com/blog/genai-code-security-report/) introduced well-known security flaws. Its spring 2026 update, across more than 150 models, found that [only 55% of tasks](https://www.veracode.com/blog/spring-2026-genai-code-security/) produced secure code.

None of this means the tools are bad. It means the person who presses Deploy owns the result, and most sellers didn't sign up to be a security team.

## Where Shopdrop fits: a free, no-code AI store builder

Shopdrop starts from the other end: the AI works on your store, never on your servers.

Everything in the last two sections is built and running before Maya types her store's name. The hosting, the SSL certificate, her store's address, the database and the rules about who can see it, a [checkout](https://shopdrop.pro/features/checkout) that pays her online into her own Stripe or PayPal account with no Shopdrop fee, plus cash on delivery and bank transfer, fast pages, and the emails that confirm each order. Each store's data is kept apart from every other store's, and our [security page](https://shopdrop.pro/security) explains how.

The AI sits on top of that. Genie, Superstudio and the connector change words, pictures, products and design. Every design change is saved as a version she can undo, and changes from Genie and the connector show up as a preview or a card before they apply. She can bring the AI she already likes, and the store stays hers. Everything she used in Shopdrop works on the [Free plan](https://shopdrop.pro/pricing).

That's the store we built Shopdrop to be. [See everything it does](https://shopdrop.pro/features).

## Questions people ask

### Can AI build an online store?

Yes. AI can set up the store, write product listings, make banners and change the design from plain words. It still needs hosting, a checkout, a database and security underneath. A store platform with AI built in has those running already. With an AI app builder you set them up yourself.

### Is there a free AI store builder?

Several store platforms have free plans, so check what the free plan can sell with. Shopdrop's Free plan includes the first run, the store editor, Genie with monthly credits, cash on delivery, bank transfer and online payments through your own Stripe or PayPal account, with no commission on sales.

### Do I need to know how to code to build an online store with AI?

No. On a no-code store builder you work in plain words and on the page itself. Code matters when you build the store yourself with an AI app builder, because then the hosting, database and deployments are yours to run.

### What's the best ecommerce store builder for AI?

It depends on what you want to own. If you want to write and run your own code, AI app builders such as Lovable, Bolt and v0 give you full control. If you want a store that sells this week, pick a commerce platform with AI built in. Then compare what the free plan includes, whether it takes a cut of each sale, and whether its AI can change your products and design as well as write text.

### Can I run my store from ChatGPT or Claude?

Yes, through a connector. Shopdrop's connector links your store to Claude, ChatGPT and Grok, so you can ask for a redesign, a sale or a weekly review in the chat you already use, and apply each change with one tap.

## The next trunk show

![A herringbone chain and a signet ring worn with a black slip dress](https://cdn.shopdrop.pro/content/52692f72-cc9d-45c5-909a-6e5e33c4e3df.w1600.webp)

Maya's next trunk show looks the same as the last one, with one change: a small card on the table with her store's address. When someone asks "Do you have a website?", she points at it. The cuff on the card is the cuff in the banner, and the store behind it took her one evening.

If you have a product and a name, you have most of what you need. Start with the photo you're proudest of.
